Welcome Message:
Dear Wholy Ground Community,
Welcome to our latest edition of the Wholy Ground Spiritual Center Newsletter! We are thrilled to share with you the latest updates, events, and reflections from our vibrant and inclusive community. Together, we continue to journey towards a more compassionate and just world.
For the next three months allow yourself to embark in the spirit and energy of compassion. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines compassion as “sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it.” The truth is many of us will suffer or encounter experiences that are not pleasant. Compassion allows us to be mindful that each of us are living experiences that do not seem to be our best moments. We can express compassion by simple gestures to others. We can share a smile, a call, a message, and even a head nod. To have no communication with humanity means to lack compassion. May you see the Divine in your neighbor. May you know the Divine is also in you. We were created to connect and share compassion with all of creation.
Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.

Compassion in Uncertainty by Reverend Glencie Rhedrick
Compassion is a word often spoken, but its meaning can transform depending on who you ask and the journey they’ve walked. From the innocent perspective of a small child to the resilience of a transplant recipient, compassion weaves a tapestry of connection, empathy, and hope.
Here are five lenses through which compassion finds profound meaning:
Through the Eyes of a Small Child:
To a small child, compassion is simple yet powerful. It’s the hug that mends tears, the shared laughter that lights up a dark moment, and the reassuring presence of someone who says, “I’m here.” Children teach us that compassion is instinctive—a natural inclination to care for others, unburdened by prejudice or expectation. Their unfiltered emotions remind us that sometimes, simply being present is the most profound expression of love Listening Without Judgment. Compassion begins with truly hearing one another. This moment calls us to acknowledge the diverse range of emotions people are experiencing—whether despair, hope, fear, or relief. As faith communities, we can create spaces for dialogue where everyone feels heard and validated, free from dismissal or judgment. In listening, we offer dignity and respect, reminding others they are not alone.
Through the Struggles of an Unhoused Family:
For an unhoused family, compassion can mean survival. It’s the warm meal offered without judgment, the shelter that opens its doors on a cold night, and the stranger who smiles and acknowledges their humanity. Compassion here is about meeting basic needs while affirming dignity. It’s understanding that behind every face is a story and that everyone deserves a chance to rebuild their life. Practicing Empathy in Action Empathy is not just about understanding; it’s about stepping into someone else’s shoes and walking alongside them. This might mean reaching out to those who feel disheartened, offering tangible support, or simply being present. A phone call, a shared prayer, or an act of service can remind someone of their worth and the enduring power of community.
Through the Resilience of a Survivor of Hurricane Helene:
After Hurricane Helene tore through lives and communities, survivors found compassion in the hands that cleared debris, the voices that offered comfort, and the resources shared to help rebuild. For them, compassion is resilience in action. It’s the reminder that even in the face of nature’s fury, humanity’s kindness can restore hope. Compassion, in this lens, becomes a bridge from despair to renewal Speaking Hope Into Uncertainty.
The role of faith communities is to speak hope into despair. Share stories of resilience, redemption, and transformation that affirm the possibility of renewal. Draw on scripture and sacred traditions that emphasize perseverance, grace, and the light that shines in the darkness. Remind your community that, in faith, hopelessness is never the final word.
Through the Strength of a Cancer Survivor:
A cancer survivor sees compassion in the nurses who hold their hand during treatment, the loved ones who stay by their side despite the fear, and the communities that rally around them. Compassion is the empathy that acknowledges the depth of their battle without pity. It’s the strength offered in small gestures—a shared meal, a thoughtful prayer, or a listening ear—that fuels their determination to keep fighting Leading with Kindness.
In times of division, small acts of kindness become radical acts of faith. Whether it’s a kind word, a helping hand, or a simple gesture of care, kindness can transform someone’s outlook. These acts ripple outward, showing that compassion is not confined to words but embodied in action.
Through the Gratitude of a Transplant Recipient:
For a transplant recipient, compassion is life itself. It’s found in the selflessness of a donor who gave them a second chance, the medical team that worked tirelessly, and the friends and family who supported them through the journey. Compassion is the gratitude they carry daily, inspiring them to pay it forward. It’s the recognition that life is a shared gift, meant to be cherished and shared.
Embracing Inclusion in an Uncharted Era:
As we move into this uncharted era under a newly elected administration, compassion calls us to expand our embrace to all peoples. This includes undocumented residents, Black and Brown communities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and transgender people, who often face systemic barriers and social exclusion. Compassion in this context means affirming their humanity, advocating for their rights, and standing against injustice. Embracing inclusion means recognizing the beauty of diversity and the strength it brings to our shared future. It’s about creating a world where everyone—regardless of their background, identity, or status—can thrive and feel valued. Compassion invites us to not only see the struggles of others but to act in ways that build bridges, dismantle barriers, and foster belonging.
A Shared Thread of Humanity:
Though these lenses are diverse, the thread of compassion binds them all. It teaches us that caring for one another transcends differences and challenges. Compassion is not about solving every problem but about standing with others in their pain, celebrating their triumphs, and offering a hand when they need it most.
May we embrace compassion in all its forms, learning from the perspectives of those who remind us that, in the end, we are all deeply connected. As we live out this truth, let us become vessels of hope, grace, and enduring love—building an inclusive and just society that reflects the fullness of our shared humanity.

Finding Your Roots: A Guide to Tree Pose (Vrikshasana)

- Engage Your Root: Shift your weight onto one leg, engaging your core and grounding your standing foot.
- Lift and Place: Gently lift your other foot, placing the sole against your inner thigh or calf. Avoid placing it directly on your knee.
-
Find Your Balance: Bring your hands to your
heart center in a prayer position or extend
them overhead. Focus on a fixed point to
maintain balance.
